Literacy Tutors
Thank you for your interest in our volunteer tutor program. As our name suggests, Literacy Volunteers Serving Adults depends on the volunteer service of our trained tutors. We are continually training new tutors through out the year because the need is urgent. Right now more than 150 students are waiting for tutors.
Become a Literacy Tutor!

- Participate in 21 hours of training in one of our sessions (held periodically throughout the year)
- Are willing to commit two hours a week tutoring a student for a total of 100 hours

Tutor Training Workshops
Tutor training workshops are held at various sites around Northern Delaware throughout the year. The location and schedule of these workshops varies to allow for differing work schedules among participants. We will be holding another tutor training session in the fall. Please check back for more information, a schedule and directions to the training location.
- You will be trained in techniques usable with Basic Reading and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) students. This will allow LVSA for greater flexibility in selecting a student for you and provide you with a greater variety of techniques and materials to use when tutoring.
- You will be trained to work with students on a one-to-one basis.
- After your training is completed, you will be matched up with a waiting student. Together you and your student set up meeting schedules at mutually convenient times and locations.
- LVSA provides you with all the teaching materials and books you will need at no cost to you. Additional support is always available when needed and requested.
