Play SCRABBLE® for Literacy
It's not too soon to start practicing for the 2010 SCRABBLE® Spellebration, LVSA's premier fundraising event. Gather together your team and register now for this unique twist on the traditional word game of SCRABBLE®, which pits teams of five against other teams with an established selection of tiles to create the highest scoring board.
The 2010 SCRABBLE® Spellebration promises a full afternoon of food, fun and gamesmanship. Come early and enjoy a delicious lunch. Compete with other teams for SCRABBLE® Spellebration trophies and win exciting prizes. Take your chance at the "Pick of the Letter" raffle and win some fabulous gifts. Then, top the afternoon off with an awards ceremony and raffle drawing. A cash bar (beer and wine) will be open all afternoon.
Your participation will support LVSA tutors and programs and help eradicate illiteracy in Delaware. Don't miss out on this fun way to challenge your mind and outwit your opponents. Or, if you are unable to play, please consider becoming a sponsor by giving generously to this important event.

SCRABBLE® SPELLEBRATION Details
Highlights
The afternoon opens with registration beginning at 12 noon. Come early and enjoy lunch (included with admission) with your team and begin plotting your strategy. Browse the Pick-of the-Letter Raffle tables and take your chances with a winning ticket to win some fabulous prizes donated by area businesses. The main competition kicks off at 1 p.m. You will play three rounds with slightly varying rules. After the tournament, stay around for the raffle drawing and awards ceremony. A cash bar (beer and wine) will be open all afternoon along with plenty of munchies to keep your brain ticking. Prizes and awards go to the top three teams. All participants will go home with a SCRABBLE® Spellebration Book Bag and have a chance at various door prizes, announced throughout the day.
Pick-of-the-Letter Raffle
During lunch and between rounds, be sure to check out the Pick-of-the-Letter Raffle. You will find a fabulous display of fun gifts, services and items, courtesy of our sponsors, to take chances on winning. You can buy ticket chances for $1 each, or 25 for $20. Then go around and drop your tickets in the raffle boxes of favorite items. The more tickets you buy, the better your chances. The drawings will be held immediately after the tournament ends during the awards ceremony.
How to Play
The main event of the day is the SCRABBLE® tournament, where crafty teams of wordsmiths race against the clock to fill SCRABBLE® boards. Several rounds will be played, each a little different.
The SCRABBLE® Spellebration is not like your ordinary game of SCRABBLE®. Teams compete against others teams in building SCRABBLE® boards to win the most points. Each team starts out with an identical bag of preselected letter tiles. Words do not need to start in the center of the board, but all words must connect. Working together in a timed game period, each team tries to create words that will score highest for that round. Help is available in the purchase of additional tiles ($1-$10 each, depending on the face value of the tile) or by sneaking a peek in the dictionary (30 seconds for a $1). After several rounds, the team with the highest score will win trophies and the top prizes. Additional prizes are given for such things as the "Best Team Name" and "Most Creative Words" and others.
