What We Do


Literacy Volunteers Serving Adults (LVSA) helps people become literate, whether they want to learn basic reading skills or need help with English. We offer the following services:




 Basic Literacy Skills


English Language Learning


 English Language/Wilmington Head Start


English Language Civics Classes

Citizenship Classes

Congratulations to Beatriz Chacon-Soto and Catalina Cisneros!

 

Beatriz and Catalina were honored at the DAACE (Delaware Association for Adult and Community Education) OAASIS (Organization of Adult Alumni Students in Service) Summit luncheon. They were recognized by state adult educators for their outstanding achievements in LVSA's program.Program Coordinator Alyssa Almond beams:

"Catalina and Beatriz have made extraordinary progress since they started the program, and we are extremely proud of their accomplishments!"

UD SCRABBLE and Board Gamer's Club Fundraiser!


University of Delaware's SCRABBLE and Board Gamer's Club hosted a SCRABBLE® and Chess fundraiser for LVSA.

 The event was sponsored by UD Chess club, The Misfits, and Days of Knights.


The event, held on April 13 from 12-6 pm in the Perkins Student Center, raised $200 for LVSA! The winners of the SCRABBLE® and Chess Tournament were awarded a paid $150 registration for LVSA's Spellebration fundraiser on October 26, 2013 and $50 worth of SCRABBLE® tiles for the competition by LVSA Executive Director Cindy Shermeyer. In addition, the UD Board Gamer's club awarded a $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble to each winner.


Special thanks to everyone who participated in this event! It was a great time!

On June 4th at 6:30 pm at the Dover Public Library Kent County residents will have a chance 

 to learn about LVSA's expansion to the library and  become involved with the program!
